Hi all,
Composers (aspiring composers, too!) please take note!
1. There will be a composing workshop, please read details below:
Date: 7th week
Description: Composing 102 is a simple theory workshop that all Geyao composers should attend. This workshop equips composers with the necessary starter toolkit skills required for meaningful composing. Instrumentalists are welcome to attend as helpers, but are not obliged to. Vocalists are welcome to attend as well, as some basic music theory would definitely help in vocals. However, do keep in mind that this workshop will be geared towards composition.
Please see the forum (url below) for more details, and to sign up as well!http://www.nusgeyao.com/smf/index.php?topic=196.0
2. NUS / NEA is jointly organizing a Jingle and Rap Contest, in conjunction with NEA's Clean and Green Singapore 2008. Simply compose a short jingle or rap on the theme: To Adopt an environmentally-Friendly Lifestyle.
Please visit www.greencarnival.com/jnr.html for more details!
Regards,
Lim Jia Hui

First session for vocalists!
Here I come finally~sorry for the waiting~~~
First thing, I haven't informed those "passed" vocalists yet as I need to get the member list before I can email you...Or, I will look for you during the first session (which means if you wanna know whether you've been chosen, you must come for the first session!)
Secondly, for the first session, I guess we'll have a tight schedule since we have quite a few tasks to finish. Below is the rough plan:
1) Briefing about the activities (performances, etc.) we have this semester.
2) Grouping of vocalists (each group will be led by 1 or 2 seniors, depend on the number of seniors we have) This grouping will be fixed for the rest of the term and also serves a purpose in our activity plan (wanna know more? Come to the first session!)
3) Kai-sheng (vocal warm-up??) Just my way of kai-sheng, I'm sure there are more.
4) Here comes the fun part: all of you get to sing!! Along with a live instrument I suppose (see whether we can get anyone from the instrumentalist side, but apparently they are also busy training their new comers).
5) Mini-performance
Well well, this is just the skeleton for the session~Hmmm, I think if you come for the first session, you will sure learn some useful "tips" in singing from our seniors.
Ok, so what do you need to prepare? Nothing except your voice and a bottle of water, oh and of course, your enthusiasm! And also remember, the seniors are much friendlier than they were during the streaming session, so if you have anything regarding geyao activities or others, just talk to them!
To those who missed the streaming session, pls look for me after grouping. I'll stream you individually, hmmm, without any music I think.
For seniors, pls gather @6.30 again! Anyway I think we are meeting for dinner right?
The venue will probably be LT in science again, cuz it's the cheapest haha~~
[Same venue, LT23 in Science!!!]
So, see you on wednesday!~~

You can choose one out of the three choices to sing during streaming. -1(instrumental version) will be provided [available for downloading from our forum soon]. These instrumental versions are to be trimmed so that you only need to sing one verse + one chorus (probably with bridge and upkey, too).
If you do not wish to sing the songs stated above or you have any queries, pls contact Yuki@94768534/filippoinzaghi24@gmail.com ASAP (preferably before Tuesday).
All senior vocalists pls be present at least half an hour before streaming (meet@6.30pm club room). I need to brief you about the judging criteria and other things.
Good luck to all the budding vocalists!

Hello Everyone!
Welcome back to school hahahas. Hope you all had a good time over your holidays =D
Anyway, I have received some queries about Geyao's activities this sem, etc. Just to clarify - Geyao will be having two main events this month:
1. Green Carnival (organized by NUSSAVE) - 26th August, 12pm to 1pm @ Central Forum, do come down to support us!
2. Geyao Welcome Tea - 27th and 29th August, 7pm @ YIH Function Room 1 (Geyao members who have friends who are interested in joinining Geyao, do encourage them to come for this!)
Currently, geyao members who are involved in the above performances are busily preparing for their items, and the clubroom is being used twice weekly for rehearsals (free free to pop by and listen and say hi and listen to us! =D).
Therefore, usual geyao activities will resume once the welcome tea has ended =] Activity day will also remain on Wednesdays!
Do contact me if you have any clarifications to make =]

President

Geyao Chalet 12/7 - 13/7
hello everyone! thanks for coming over to my house for the potluck / sleepover / chalet last sat! was immensely great to have you all over =] anyway, here's some updates on the outing!
food food and food galore. this photo is like, the START of all the food because at the end of it the table was totally laden with food! yuanhong for the donuts, zijun for the beehoon and otak, jack and julie for fried rice and jelly, xuanyu for the things on the sticks, yuqing for the tiramisiu, bowen for the icecream, yuanyi for the chicken that was frozen, hahahas! and so much more, apologies that my brain has this pathetic capacity. thankyou everyone for bringing so much stuff, anyway!
and of course, what is a geyao meeting without some jamming? thanks to raymond for the full band setup, we had 1 keyboard, 1 electronic drums, 1 electric guitar and my mini acoustic, and another acoustic that bowen brought sometime later. of course, mixer and the two huge speakers lying around! saturday's jamming was spontaneous and impromptu; sunday's jamming was more structured and we tried harder to imitate the songs with raymond's chords displayed on the wall, hahas! some photos are up here, but the bulk is still lying around in unnamed cameras =p
the double J couple singing a duet with xuanyu's accompaniment...
yuqing playing ball games with my sister's multicolored ball!four of us also went for a short swim... NOT with this float, though =p
and finally... a group photo of us on saturday night!!
videos of us jamming on sunday have been uploaded to youtube by yuqing, and are linked as below:

Basic Keyboard Holiday Workshop
Basic keyboard holiday workshop was conducted yesterday in YIH Committee Room 2, 7pm-9pm. Yu Qing, our Vice Music Director, was the main instructor, with Raymond and William helping out with the five students in class. At the end of the session, participants learnt some basic chord theory, and were able to play a C-Am-F-G progression. Some that were able to pick up fast were able to play the full song, 童话.
Again, apologies for the quality of the photos...
Four keyboards were set up in the room - two of geyao's, one from voices, and one from Jack. Many thanks to Jack for his keyboard and Raymond, as usual, for the entire setup!
At the end of the session, one enthusiastic participant who was able to pick up the rhythm of playing very fast, entertained us all by performing a rendition of tong hua on keyboard by himself, and singing along as well! 自弹自唱,不简单!APPLAUSE!!

The original plan for the basic keyboard workshop was that it was to be held only on one day, and the participants would be free to continue learning themselves after the workshop, which was meant to be a starter for them to kindle their interest for keyboard. However, this particular batch of participants were so enthusiastic that another session has been arranged for next thursday, same time, same place, as a continuation of this basic keyboard workshop.
We will be adjourning to Clementi KBox after the workshop for a round of singing, for those who are unable to make it for the workshop but are interested in joining us for KBox after that, do contact me (Jia Hui, HP 91910051) so that we can arrange to meet you there!
More photos taken during the workshop are uploaded below, same procedure - come to me if you want the photos!

Coming up in the following weeks - vocals and guitar workshops! Stay tuned for more updates and photos...

Drums Holiday Workshop
The first of our series of holiday workshops for drums was successfully completed yesterday! Much appreciation to Ken, the coordinator for the drums workshop, for his very patient instruction; Raymond for arranging equipment and location as well as setting up; and the participants for their enthusiasm!
During the workshop, participants learnt the components of a basic drum set, some basic beats, as well as fill-ins between the beats. Three drum sets were set up - one in committee room, one in geyao club room, and one along the corridors of YIH. Instructors, namely, Ken and Raymond, went around checking on the beats and giving helpful comments and teaching new beats when the basic beats were more stable.
At the end of the session, we had a very enthusiastic "jamming" session with mp3 songs blasting from the amps, and Ken giving us a demonstration on how the song should be played =D The songs were really upbeat, eg, 五月天's 恋爱-ing, FIR's 你的微笑,孙燕姿's 第一天,etc!
Because of overwhelming response, another drum workshop will be held tomorrow, 20th June, for those who have already signed up. Do check back for more updates and photos then! Meanwhile, we have uploaded quite a few photos here for you to look through. I do apologize for the quality of the photos, because they were taking with my hp and my hand is none too steady =p Participants who would like their photos, feel free to contact me (Jia Hui) for them!
